Subprime crisis hits pockets of MA

There are certain areas throughout the country where the subprime lending crisis seems destined to explode. (I don’t think the nation’s economy is at risk, btw.)
The Wall Street Journal created a series of graphs detailing the carnage.
Where are the biggest problems?
In the Sacramento, Calif., region, where the median household income ranks among the top […]

In twist, mortgage loan applications rise 17%

In the midst of all the media coverage of the subprime lending debacle, comes this interesting piece of information:
[O]n an unadjusted basis compared with the same week one year ago, [mortgage loan] applications were up 16.6 percent.
The refinance share of mortgage activity decreased to 45.1 percent of total applications from 45.3 percent the previous week.
The […]

More on mortgage loan survey

Another interesting piece of information out of Bankrate.com’s mortgage loan survey.
Most renters are not staying out of the housing market for fear that prices will go down; instead 40 percent said the main obstacle holding them back from a purchase was that they didn’t have enough money to afford a home, according to our poll. […]

Why don’t people know what kind of mortgage loan they have?

A stunning 34 percent of homeowners don’t know what type of mortgage they have, according to a new survey done by Bankrate.com.
Details forthcoming, this afternoon. Not much going on in the real estate world, which accounts for the lack of posts. Sorry.

No one’s gonna buy your home

The Globe has an article today about how everyone in Massachusetts is getting old and moving out of state (or dying). No one’s moving into the state.
The result? No one’s going to be left to buy your house, a couple years from now.
At least that’s their conclusion, based on conversations with several economists.
Funny […]

Analyst sees some stabilization in real estate market

I wish I had some Boston-only data to give to you, but I don’t. I’ll try to drudge some up.

With subprime mortgages making headlines over the past few weeks, buyers can be ambivalent about their lending options. New online guides and free brochures help to clear up any confusion and help consumers find a loan that suits them.
“Given the current real estate climate, home-buyers are faced with considerable decisions that could affect their financial […]

How long does it take to buy a home?

Quick post on this.

Most people will need about 12 weeks, if they are focused on it.
Here are some of the steps:

Subprime lending - confusion over what’s going on

Today’s subprime lending minute is brought to you by ex-Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan, who used to be much-loved, but is now being called a “hypocrite” and “opportunist”. Why? Because he talks too much.
Anyway, moving on.
I’m confused.
On one side, you have this:
Cesar Mejia feels fortunate his family isn’t out on the streets.
The 58-year-old school […]
