The New York Times continues its 400-part series on renting vs. buying with yesterday’s article on renting vs. buying.
You know, it’s cheaper to ride a bike to work than to drive your car.  I’m just sayin’ …

The thought has occurred to just about everybody who owns a home in a […]

When buying a home - ASK

Each week, The Herald’s Nena Groskind answers real estate questions.
This week, a seller writes in:
I bought my house almost 20 years ago and have remodeled it slowly over the years (adding a kitchen, full bath, half bath, bedroom, etc.).
I’m confident I did the work competently and in compliance with local building codes. However, […]

The Wall Street Journal put up some links today to some great online resources that can help first-time homebuyers (or anyone looking to move) decide whether to buy or rent.

Costs of renting vs. buying diverge - but there’s a reason for that

So, economists, analysts, and the media have all jumped on this idea that housing costs MUST decrease, because the cost of buying vs. the cost of renting has diverged.   I’m in the minority who think there is absolutely no logic in this thinking.

How does a first-time homebuyer afford to buy in Boston?

A must-read article.  How is it possible for a first-time homebuyer, or for anyone, for that matter, to afford buying a condo or co-op in New York City?  Again, this article is about NYC, but works for anyone trying to buy a home in Boston, as well.

College-bound kids? Buy them a condo

Yeah, I know I post a lot of articles about the New York City real estate market, but that’s only because they have lots more stories about real estate.
Here’s a great little article about a father who decided to buy a condo for his college-bound daughter.  While we might not all be so lucky as […]
